Sugarball

Sugarball lead vocalist Shotsgee has rock in his veins, as fourth cousin of the sixth drummer of metal rock god sensations, Clobbertoxin. He always knew he would find his way to the sound studio and the stage, jotting down the lyrics that repeated in his dreams and assembling bands since he was old enough to have playdates. Sugarball was the bastard child yielded from his torrid college romance with bassist Jules (which also resulted in a raging case of crabs also shared with drummer Thumper).

The members of Sugarball have known each other their entire lives, yet they found themselves in the right place to make magic at Miskatonic University. Forged in the fiery crucible that is a garage in the very armpit of America, Sugarball originally included Shotsgee (vocals), Jules (bass), Thumper (drums), and Sphinx (guitar). The band began producing sick beats and throbbing metals tracks, yet the local club scene was not ready.

After graduation, the members of Sugarball scattered. Shotsgee went to be a roadie for his cousin in Clobbertoxin. Jules spent some time in a Thai prison after some questionable packages were discovered in her luggage in customs. Thumper went to rehab after being discovered unconscious in a crackhouse in East Los Angeles with a well-known starlet. Sphinx backpacked through Europe and ended up marrying a prince of Tonga and siring his heir.

Yet when producer and sound mixologist Dirk discovered a neglected and forgotten Sugarball demo, he hunted Shotsgee down to reassemble Sugarball. He also brought in second guitarist, Tom, former guitar tech for the Midwestern nu-metal chart toppers, Thrash Wednesday.

When COVID hit, Dirk quarantined Sugarball together in a Chicago loft with a recording studio. They spent the lockdown doing teambuilding exercises and trust falls and creating new music about the meaning of life. It is said that if you play their music backward, it will open the gates of Hell itself.

Shotsgee

Shotsgee is the brains and the heart behind Sugarball. Sugarball was his brainchild back in a steamy Midwestern summer garage. Not only did Shotsgee conceive and assemble Sugarball, but he is also responsible for cowriting and coproducing all their original songs. Shotsgees vocals have been likened to many of late 2000s greats that defined the genre, while his guitar skills harken back to any mediocre guitarist of the same era. He honed his skills by shadowing his cousin, drummer Joey of Clobbertoxin.

Jules

The Muse

Those closest to Sugarball call Jules the muse. She was instrumental in forming the original band with Shotsgee between ditching high school classes and skipping volleyball practice. Jules’s fiery temper landed her in trouble from a young age, when she frequented both detention and the county lockup for minor offenses. After the original Sugarball disbanded, Jules washed out of college and allegedly got involved with illicit drug trafficking, culminating in her arrest in Thailand. Yet her passion is evident on the bass. When she plays, one could easily mistake her sound for that of one stand-out bassist from the Nu-Metal golden era.

Thumper

Thumper formed the awkward third leg on the adolescent triangle with Shotsgee and Jules. Thumper stuck with Shotsgee, even after the crabs incident and the original Sugarball disbanding. He tagged along with Clobbertoxin until they reached Los Angeles. Then Thumper disappeared into the thriving drug scene. He underwent several rounds of rehabs to rejoin Sugarball and regain his drum skills. Back on his game, Thumper can smash with the likes of Richard "Ric" Shrimpton

Sphinx

Sphinx has always been an enigma. Even in youth, she drifted in and out of band practice like a ghost, dropping the most poetic and profound lyrics in Sugarball’s catalog. Little is known of what happened to her between Sugarball iterations. She vanished only to reemerge in Tonga, married to the prince and pregnant with his heir. Motherhood and royal stature have not slowed her down. Sphinx shreds like Skwisgaar Skwigelf while offering infectious supporting vocals.

Tom

Tom is the newest addition to Sugarball, brought on by producer Dirk when reassembling the band. When he wasn’t working as a guitar tech for Thrash Wednesday, Tom worked as a substitute teacher. Not only does Tom rip tracks with the likes of Tommy Johnson, but he also handcrafts wood furniture in his spare time, which he sells on his Esty shop, Love Splinters.
